|
On 17th September 2006 we welcomed Rev Susan
Fauchon-Jones to the Benefice as part-time Assistant
Curate, following her Ordination at Rochester Cathedral
on the afternoon of Saturday 9 September.
Sue writes:
" Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And
I said, "Here I am. Send me!" (Isaiah 6:8)
God's calling
|
overwhelmed Isaiah and
his response was simple, "I will go". In
that moment his eyes were opened not only to God but
also the excitement of all the possibilities that lay
ahead.
During these last four
years of training I have come to appreciate the possibilities
that the future holds for me and I can look back
on many experiences that have shaped my life as I start
my ordained ministry. I have come to value ecumenical
worship and its diversity as being affirming, liberating
and challenging. The academic work has also given
me
much food for thought and has helped me grow in body,
mind and spirit. My fellow students and tutors who
have journeyed with me have genuinely become much-loved
friends.
My parents were Hindus and I grew up among Muslims,
Sikhs and Buddhists. Growing up as a child in this
culture has also given me a greater insight into how
we must continue to engage with all faiths and cultures.
As I look to prepare for the next stage of my journey
and training, I am reminded that God will continue
to shape what I am and what I will become. I am passionate
about the vocation I am about to embark upon and I
am very much looking forward to doing the practical
work both collaboratively as well as helping to lead.
Of course the learning never stops and I will continue
post ordination training, alongside being a wife and
a mother, which I see also as a vocation all in itself!
I have been married for 21 years and the love, support,
encouragement and prayers of my husband Dudley and
our twin 15-year-old sons Edward and William have helped
and affirmed me in so many ways. This support continues
as I join you all in the Benefice of Eynsford, Famingham
and Lullingstone, and I look forward to learning from
your community, which I now come to serve. Parish life
will bring many joys and challenges and I believe that
this will further my own learning and growth. Above
all I look to the God who calls me not only into the
physical work, but touches the deepness of my spirit
where I must just 'be' in his presence, and to allow
that 'being' to embrace all my ministry.
Sue Fauchon-Jones
On Saturday 30 June 2007, Sue was ordained Priest.

 |
| Assistant Priest (Retired) |
|
 |
Hazel comes from Suffolk,
is a Biology graduate (London B.Sc) and has taught
in schools in Suffolk, Worcester and Kent. |
| |
Her retirement ministry includes
a Y group which eats
together and discusses the 'whys'
of faith and life and she follows her concern for healing
in its widest context (see
Christian Healing). |
| |
|
| She is now able to explore
two different aspects of life. One is to listen
to the experiences of women priests within the church. The other is to learn
about the positive aspects of the process of ageing and an awareness
of the
integrity of the older person including those in dementia. |
| |
| Hazel continues her work with
the Acorn Christian Healing Foundation, as a
tutor of Christian Listeners, in nurturing Pastoral Teams in other churches,
in
spiritual direction and is involved in listening one-to-one in confidence.
Anyone wishing to explore any of this can contact her on 866034 or by email. |

Neville was appointed organist
of St Cuthbert's Church, Hull, at the age of fourteen,
and one year later moved to a much larger Church, St
Augustine's, where he stayed for 25 years. At age 16,
he was offered a scholarship to the Royal
Academy of
Music, but because of wartime circumstances,
was unable
to accept. |
| |
In 1968, his work in the field
of technical audiology brought him and his family to
the South East, where he was immediately offered the
post of Organist and Choirmaster
at a local Church. |
| |
| He
started at St Martin's in 1977, but after seven years
(in the course of which, in 1981, he founded the Darent
Valley Choir) he was compelled to leave because of professional
and business pressures. When he retired eleven years
later, however, he was invited to return to St Martin's,
and was very happy to do so. |
